Keeping it up

Not that, you pervert. I logged into my mail/fileserver this morning and ran uptime. Here's the results:
Welcome to the Mitel Networks SME Server.
bash-2.05$ uptime
11:21am up 366 days, 15:22, 1 user, load average: 0.08, 0.02, 0.01
Now that I can say it's been online for a year+ without a reboot, I can get serious about migrating off the e-Smith platform.

Someone "unplugging the server" isn't always funny...

I teach a computer class (among others) at our local community college - and during our first class last September, just after the students had created their first Word document and were about to save their work to the network drive, the server disappeared and all of the workstations froze up - creating mass panic among 20 or so students!

It turns out one of the long-time IT staff (with at least 15 years of experience) was getting annoyed by random UPS beeps due to some kind of minor glitch, and walked over and powered it down. Unfortunately, it was supplying power to the main college server at the time...

I don't think he'll power a UPS off without checking to see what was plugged into it next time.

Some days I'm glad I got out of IT work and into teaching. Then other days.......
